An established independent veterinary hospital in West Norfolk is seeking an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing team. About the Opportunity

We’re working with a well-equipped, independently owned veterinary hospital near Downham Market, Norfolk, that is looking to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon to its collaborative team. The role includes working across both the main hospital site and a nearby branch practice in King’s Lynn.

With a large and loyal client base of over 13,000 patients, the practice delivers high-quality care in a modern, well-resourced environment. The team culture is built around mutual support, respect, and professional development.


The Practice Environment

This purpose-built, 24-hour hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical technology, supporting a high standard of clinical care. Facilities include:

  • CT scanner (GE)

  • Digital X-ray (DR and CR systems)

  • Full in-house laboratory (Idexx)

  • Endoscopy and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery equipment

  • Dental suite with dental X-ray

  • Ultrasound (GE Vivid systems)

  • Orthopaedic surgical equipment (TPLO, THR kits)

  • Multiple sterile theatres and dedicated dental theatre

  • Separate cat and dog wards plus isolation unit

  • Advanced patient monitoring systems and ECG

The practice continues to invest heavily in equipment and clinical capability, ensuring vets have access to everything needed to perform at a high level.

The Role

  • Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon position

  • Split between hospital and branch practice in King’s Lynn

  • Variety of cases including consultations, diagnostics, and surgery


Schedule

  • 4-day working week

  • Core shift: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Early shift: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

  • Late shift: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Out-of-hours rota:

  • 1 in 5 weekends (with Friday before and Monday after off)

  • 1 week of nights every 9 weeks (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

  • Week off following night shifts for recovery


Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £40,000 – £75,000, depending on experience

  • Additional £5,000 per year for participation in night rota

  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), increasing with service

  • Uncapped CPD with full support for certificates

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS registered or eligible)

  • Experience in small animal practice preferred

  • Confident in both consultations and routine surgery

  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills
