Experienced Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice, NW London

We’re currently working with an established independent small animal practice in North West London, that is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its progressive, patient- and client-focused team. The practice is committed to delivering high standards of veterinary care, with a strong emphasis on communication, continuity of care, and long-term client relationships.

The clinic is particularly interested in a Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine interest in imaging, dentistry, and medicine, and offers an environment that supports clinical development in these areas.

About the Practice

This well-established independent practice is located between Golders Green and Cricklewood, with convenient access to West Hampstead, Hendon, and Hampstead. The supportive and collaborative team provides high-quality veterinary services to a loyal and friendly client base.

Practice Ethos

The practice prioritises excellent communication and individualised, customised patient care, aiming to build lasting, trusting relationships with clients and their pets throughout all life stages. The clinic is an ISFM Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic and a Dogs Trust Dog Friendly Clinic, operating a no-scruff, minimal-restraint handling policy. Team members are expected to work respectfully with patients, communicate effectively within the team, and support colleagues by utilising individual strengths across both clinical and non-clinical roles.

Facilities & Equipment

The practice is well equipped with:

• Digital CR dental radiography and a separate dental suite

• Full in-house IDEXX laboratory

• Ultrasound, endoscopy, and bronchoscopy

• Multi-parameter monitoring and tonometry

• Theatre suite

• Four consulting rooms (two cat/small furries and two dog)

• Separate cat and dog entrances, receptions, consulting rooms, and wards

• RxWorks practice management system

• Dedicated quiet room for end-of-life discussions and care

Clients

As an independent practice, the clinic offers flexibility to provide an individualised approach to each client and pet. Longer consultation times support thorough clinical discussions, clear communication, and holistic, evidence-based care. A high proportion of clients are insured, with direct claims offered where possible.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday: 8:00am–7:00pm

• Saturday: 9:00am–6:00pm (1 in 3, with time off in lieu)

• Closed Sundays

• 20–30 minute consultations

• Scheduled time for surgery, procedures, and client communication

• No out-of-hours work

Support & Referrals

The practice is supported by visiting specialists in cardiology, imaging, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgery. Referrals are primarily made to leading specialist centres.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ UK small animal practice experience

• Interest in imaging, dentistry, and medicine

• Confident in routine surgery, medicine, and emergency work

• Strong communication skills and ability to support colleagues

• Curiosity and a passion for empathetic, holistic patient care
