We’re working with a modern, fast-paced urgent care veterinary hospital in San Antonio, Texas that is seeking a Medical Director to lead clinical operations while continuing to practice high-quality medicine. This leadership role combines hands-on urgent care with the opportunity to shape medical standards, guide team performance, and influence hospital direction in a well-supported environment.

About the Practice

This newly designed urgent care hospital is built around efficient workflows, advanced technology, and a strong support team structure. The focus is on delivering same-day and next-day care for common but urgent pet health concerns, including gastrointestinal illness, dermatologic conditions, respiratory issues, wounds, pain, and toxin exposure.

The hospital environment is modern, warm, and intentionally designed for both pets and people, with a strong emphasis on efficiency, communication, and quality care delivery.

Leadership Role

As Medical Director, this position provides both clinical practice and leadership autonomy, including:

  • Establishing and maintaining medical quality standards
  • Guiding clinical protocols and urgent care workflows
  • Supporting and mentoring veterinary and technical staff
  • Driving consistency in patient care and client communication
  • Helping shape the long-term direction of the hospital

This role is designed to offer ownership-level influence without financial risk, supported by centralized operational resources such as HR, marketing, finance, and administrative teams.

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Open 7 days per week
    • Monday – Friday: 12:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
    • Saturday – Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Four shifts per week, plus weekends on rotation

Caseload

  • Same-day and next-day urgent care cases for dogs and cats
  • Common presentations include:
    • Vomiting and diarrhea
    • Allergic reactions
    • Ear and skin infections
    • Wounds and lacerations
    • Lethargy and pain
    • Respiratory concerns
    • Toxicity exposure
    • Urinary issues
    • Flea, tick, and mite infestations

Ideal Candidate

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Licensed in Texas, or eligible for licensure
  • Strong clinical background in emergency or urgent care preferred
  • Leadership experience or interest in practice management
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills
  • Commitment to high-quality, efficient, and ethical veterinary care
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment
